William Meredith R.I.P.

Frankly, I'd like to make you smile.
Words addresssing evil won't turn evil back
but they can give heart.
The cheer is hidden in right words.
(from "The Cheer" by William Meredith)

A great statesman of American poetry took his leave of us today at the venerable age of 88. R.I.P. William Meredith.

Interesting: He's 88, and Whitman would be 188 today. Funny...but not "ha ha."
